The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb

The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb This book is about the Columbine school shootings from the perspective of an English teacher named Caelum Quirk and his wife Maureen, a school nurse. It also provides information on Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold including writing they did and how they spent their final hours. As a teacher, this is a gripping and very sad, too close to home read. The author does an incredible job with imagery and it really feels like you are in the cabinet in the library with Maureen as the shooting is taking place.  While Maureen is handling tragedy firsthand, Caelum is vising his aunt in Three Rivers, Connecticut. While there, Caelum finds old diaries and newspaper clippings which reveal his own past. Caelum processes his past while dealing with the present, and aftermath of Columbine shootings, and tries to figure out a future. Where the Crawdads Sing

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens  This book is about the incredible story of a girl named Kya raised in a Marsh in the Carolinas. She is raised without a mother and a drunken father, so she has to fend for herself the majority of the time. This is a typical coming of age story, where the young girl has to grow up before her time. This book is set in the 1950s, and the marsh becomes more of a parent force than either of Kya's parents. There is a boy that shows an interest in Kya, but not in a nice way. When that boy is eventually found dead, Kya is the prime suspect in the murder case.  This is an incredible book for anyone who cheers for a young female protagonist, anyone who loves a mystery, or anyone who has a great appreciation for nature.
